INSTALLING 1/4"
PHONE JACKS IN A MICRO 75-A
TO INSTALL THE 1/4 INCH PHONE JACKS AND ADAPTER PLATE INTO YOUR MICRO 75-A SOUND SYSTEM PLEASE FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS CLOSELY!
Start by taking the unit out of the case. Stand the unit up (carrying position) and locate the chrome handle cover. Slide a screwdriver under one end of the handle cover and it will pop off. Lay the unit down (normal playing position) and take off the lid. Lift off the turntable platter and set it out of the way. Remove the two screws holding the handle in place. On the opposite side from the handle are two rubber feet. Unscrew the two screws holding the two feet on. The unit will now lift out of the case for easy access to all parts of the set.
Before taking out the old CINCH-JONES connector, make note that the wires are BLUE and BROWN, the standard HIlton speaker lead colors.
Due to the tight space inside the Mirco 75A, the adapter plate has to be mounted externally. This moves the tip of the speaker cord plug away from the transformer inside the unit. Occasionally the jack will have to be rotated in the adapter plate to insure proper clearance inside the Micro-75A.
Enclosed with the adapter are two small pattern nuts. If your Micro-75A Cinch-Jones plug was installed with larger nuts, discard them and install the 1/4" phone jack with the smaller nuts.
Make note that the BLUE WIRE is connected to the small connection on the Cinch-Jones connector. This is the HOT, or output, lead of the power output circuit board. This blue wire MUST go to the TIP connection of the 1/4" phone jack.
The BROWN WIRE is the ground connection and is connected to the barrel (or body) of the 1/4" phone jack.
If the Hilton sound system you are working on does not have these standard colors be VERY CAREFUL to insure that the HOT, or output, lead is connected tot he TIP of the 1/4" phone jack.
Once the plate is in, and the wires soldered, insert a 1/4" phone plug in and out and observe to insure that the JACK TIP doesn't touch anywhere when the plug is inserted.
Reassemble the unit by reversing the directions at the top of this page and you're back in business.
